A&P North East recently sponsored a local golf competition in support of the Great North Air Ambulance Service which is a charity that provides air ambulance cover across Cumbria, Teesside, the North East and North Yorkshire. It relies on the generosity of the public and corporate supporters to raise the £4 million needed to run the service 365 days a year and does not receive any Government or Lottery funding.
GNAAS has helicopters based at Langwathby near Penrith and Durham Tees Valley Airport. From these locations they are able to fly anywhere in the region within 15 minutes. On average it takes a seriously ill or injured patient over an hour to see a consultant in a hospital – GNAAS take the consultant to the patient, and then fly them to the best hospital for their continued care, not necessarily the nearest hospital.
The Golf competition on Sept 5th at Rockcliffe Hall near Darlington will see local professional football clubs taking part as well as companies and individuals from across the North. Teams already signed up include Sunderland AFC, Middlesbrough Football Club, Hartlepool United, Carlisle United and Darlington 1883. Newcastle United goalkeeper Steve Harper is also entering a team from Newcastle United.
