Fact 1 – A&P Falmouth is one of the biggest commercial shiprepair companies in the UK. The yard covers 75 acres with 3 drydocks including the largest dry dock on the UK south coast 40m wide and 253m long, the size of 2 Wembley football pitches.
Fact 2 – As well as A&P Falmouth there are over 30 tenants and businesses operating in The Docks ranging from multinationals like Pendennis Shipyard and World Fuels to specialist local companies including Denholm Wilhelmsen, Falmouth Fishselling, JH Bunn Fertilisers, SubMarine Services and Marine & Transport Services (MTS).
Fact 3 – A&P Falmouth is the largest engineering, steel fabrication and painting and blasting company in Cornwall. There is over 9,000m2 of workshop facilities, 9 major cranes with combined lift of 300t and a wide range of specialist skills and services in house.
Fact 4 – A&P Falmouth is a leading industry force in the renewable energy sector already working with both local and international partners to develop wave and tidal energy in Cornwall and the UK. Falmouth is the closest port to the recently opened FaBTest site and the closest major port to Wave Hub.
Fact 5 – In the last 5 years A&P has recruited 33 adult trainees and there are currently 13 adult trainees, principally Marine Engineers, under in-house training and due to qualify in 2013.
Fact 6 – In 2003 A&P Falmouth was the first shipyard in Europe to be ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment) and OHSAS 18001 (Safety) Certified.
Fact 7 – A&P Falmouth also operates main port facilities in the Port of Falmouth with nearly a kilometre of wharfage for cargo, cruise calls and visiting ships as well as alongside ship repairs. Additional to the ships in Falmouth for repair in 2011, Falmouth welcomed 112 vessels for cargo, cruise or other calls.
Fact 8 – In 2010 (the yard’s 150th Anniversary) Falmouth Docks with all its tenants and support businesses employed 1,401 people, the majority of which are skilled engineering and marine jobs. A&P Falmouth was responsible for 726 of these jobs, over 400 directly employed with the balance employed by local firms and contractors.

The after-school Inter-House Squash Tournament held at the Falmouth Sports Club, was won by Falmouth School’s Trelawney House. This new event was sponsored by A&P Falmouth Ltd and the A&P Challenge Trophy was presented to the winning House by Peter Child the Managing Director.
The project hopes to raise awareness of squash as the governing body England Squash and Racketball hope to have the sport included in the 2020 Olympics. Jem Wallis Head of PE and Sport at Falmouth School said ‘We are very grateful to Falmouth Sports Club & A&P Falmouth for all their support. We hope to extend this initiative to other clubs and sports in Falmouth. The 530 students accessing a new sport has been a really positive experience and the students now have a secure pathway into the sport of squash in Falmouth.”
