A&P Aids Local Fishermen

Following discussions between A&P Management and local fishermen and boat owners in Falmouth, often carried out in the Chain Locker (a popular local hostelry), A&P Falmouth has fixed a windsock to its massive Bailey crane, which operates between its No 3 & No 4 dock, to assist local fishermen to gauge the wind direction and sea conditions before leaving the port. The job of fitting the sock was not for the light-hearted, as the Bailey crane (No 28) stands some 45.5 metres above the ground. The wind sock needed the skills of the Service and Ironyard departments and one of the yard’s mobile cranes which itself has a reach of over 50m. The Bailey crane, now famous on the Falmouth skyline, was erected in the Docks in 2004 and can lift 60 tons
