The World returned to Falmouth last week. Its residents took full advantage of the heatwave during their 2 day stop in Falmouth on 17th & 18th July starting with an outdoor production of The Marriage of Figaro at Minnack Theatre, followed by fishing trips, a variety of sightseeing tours including trips to Fowey and Land’s End and ending with a game of bowls at the local bowling alley.
The World is the only private residential community at sea – billed as unique with residents who may travel the globe without ever leaving home.
The ship, launched in March 2002 is owned by its residents who, through a management committee, decide its itinerary. Since it set sail in 2002 The World has visited over 800 ports in approximately 140 countries, its last visit to Falmouth was in 2011.
Richard Wilcox, manager of Falmouth’s Business Improvement District, said “it is a real coup for Falmouth, the residents decide where they want to go and they don’t often go to the same place twice in 5 years. The fact that they have decided to come to Falmouth again is very good news.”
