Longest serving Falmouth pilot retires

Captain David Barnicoat is seen below disembarking the Seabourn Pride, his last ship as Falmouth’s Senior Pilot on Saturday 14 September 2013.

Well-wishers lined Pendennis Point in Falmouth, and cruise ship passengers waved and applauded as David threw his Pilot’s hat into the wake of the cruise ship as she sailed.

A&P Falmouth paid tribute to David’s 35 years as a Pilot in Falmouth when their tug Percuil surprised David and the cruise ship passengers by escorting them from port with water monitors spraying plumes of water into the air.

Since the formation of the Falmouth & District Pilot Boat Association in 1887 only one other pilot has equalled David’s service record.
